Robin Crites, Democratic Chair, Rio Grande County:

Over 100 Rio Grande County Democrats caucused in the Monte Vista High School Cafeteria and the Del Norte Town Hall Tuesday to express their preference for the presidential nominees of the Party.   Rio Grande County reflected the State preference voting 61 for Barack Obama and 38 for Hillary Clinton and 2 undecided.  Regardless of which candidate the national Democratic party ultimately selects in Denver in August, it is vital that the Party pull together and with assistance from Independents and Republicans reshape the image of politics in Washington.  Health Care has to be made universal, taxes have to be readjusted more fairly, the Iraq War has to be ended, and we must end our suicidal dependence on Middle East Oil, to name just a few of the challenges that face us.  A new era of competence and responsibility in government which began in Colorado in 2006 must take root in Washington and lead our one nation to a respected position among the powers of the earth.  Our most blessed country must follow the direction of reason in solving the many problems which have mounted up in the past several years.  As Democrats put their shoulders to the wheel in the up coming election, we welcome the company of our young people and friends and neighbors in selecting leaders who will develop and inspire the best that is in us.
